Abstract

Background. The goal of the research is to study the dynamic changes in the processes of free radical oxidation in patients with traumatic injuries of the knee joint on the background of pathogenetic correction with ethoxydol.
Materials and methods. The study includes 69 patients with traumatic knee injuries treatedby traditional complex treatment (n = 35) and systemic intravenous antioxidant therapy with 300 mg (n = 34) dose of ethoxidol. The activities of free radical processes in blood were studied by method of bio-chemiluminescence, and the content of lipo-oxidation products and the level of catalase and superoxiddismutase were established by deadlines. The methods of medical statistics were used for the statistical processing.
Results. An increase of the intensity of LPO processes and inhibition of the antioxidant system were established in case of traumatic injuries of the knee joint. A significant decrease in some lipoperoxidation products and activation of antioxidant enzymes at the end of treatment were established using traditional therapy, but their level was 35 % higher compared to normal values. The ethoxydol therapy provided an inhibitory effect on free radical processes, bringing the estimated values to the proper values.
Conclusions. A cascade of pathological free-radical reactions is triggered in case of traumatic injuries of the joint and contributing to the development of destructivedegenerative changes in the cartilaginous tissue and the synovial membrane. The effectiveness of antioxidant therapy with ethoxydol in the correction of free radical oxidation processes is proved.
